Started learning in the Chinese music training class since third year in the elementary school, successively studied dizi along with Chan Wai kin and Li Yao Zhang, switched his career path to sheng 3 years later, studied along with Mr. Chu Ka-ming, Mr. Lo Yun-sheng and Mr. Cheng Tak-wai. Once captured the second runner up in Sheng high-level group at 53rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, Yuen joined the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra in 1997 as a dizi player, and moved his position to Sheng a year later.

Yuen had his music performed around the world along with the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra, including China (Beijing, Zhongshan), the USA (Los Angeles and Las Vegas), Japan (Osaka and Kobe), Australia (Melbourne) and Canada (Edmonton and Toronto), with the highlight of being a sheng soloist during the performance in the Melbourne Town Hall. Yuen is presently the member of the Chinese Nationality Orchestral Music Society Sheng Specialized Committee, Principal of Sheng and Group Service Board member of the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra.
