Born in Hong Kong, Ng is a young musician engaged in composing, conducting, performing and educating. Active in the local music circle for more than ten years, he has been zealously developing and promoting local music. He is also committed to producing new works and training up young talents in Chinese music.




Ng graduated from the Music Department of Tsing Hua Collage and the Hong Kong Academyfor Performing Arts. He studied yangqin under Chan Sam-lam and composition under Law Wing-fai. He has been pipa and yangqin player as well as percussionist with a number of groups, and has travelled with them to give performances in the United States, Austria, Singapore, Taiwan and cities in China. In recent years, Ng has given instrumental recitals for the Provisional Urban Council and Provisional Regional Council to high acclaim. He has been hailed by the press for his "great virtuosity, strong musical sense and emotional commitment to his performance, being high-spirited, amusing or sober at times."

Ng founded the New Tune Chinese Orchestra in 1987, he led the Orchestra in the tour to Taiwan for promoting cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Taiwan. In 1990, he founded the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra. Since then, the Orchestra has performed in more than 110 concerts, visiting a number of places including Xiamen(Fujian), Kunming(Yunnan), Taiwan and Vienna(Austria) and receiving rave reviews. In 1996, he founded the Hong Kong Pipa Art Ensemble to step up promotion of the art of pipa performance.

In recent years, Ng devoted himself to music composing . His works include the children's musical The Eight Immortals Conquering the Devil, ensemble pieces Joyfulness, Instrumental Guide to the Chinese Orchestra, Sketch of Hong Kong, erhu and yangqin concerto Rhyme of Yangqin and Erhu, erhu concerto Capriccio on the theme of The Saga of Tears and Laughter, small ensemble piece Along, quartet pieces Change, Hopes , Conflict, Aspiration and Peaceful Night, etc. Peaceful Night won First Prize in the Composition Section of the School Music Festival in 1986, while Along and Conflict won prizes in the Composition Section of the Hong Kong Young Musicians' Awards in 1989.

Ng has also contributed a great deal to teaching. Many of his students have obtained distinguished results in the annual School Music Festival, and have been trained up to be rising virtuosos in the local music circle. Apart from being invited to perform in concerts, he was invited on many occasions as adjudicator in music competitions. In late 1994, he has been invited by the Regional Council to hold a series of talks on Chinese music to explain the features of different Chinese musical instruments. For years, Ng has been the organizer, coordinator and conductor of many large-scale concerts. He has all along been working hard for the promotion of music locally.


Ng is the director & conductor of Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Chinese Musicians, Committee member of Hong Kong Schools Speech and Music Association, Examiner of Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Artistic Director of Hong Kong Pipa Ensemble, Director of Tuen Mun Youth Chinese Orchestra, Principle Adviser of the Standard Grade Examination Committee of the Peking Central Conservatory of Music(Hong Kong), Adviser of Tai Cong Rongwen Art School Chinese Orchestra, Executive member of The Association of Chinese Culture of Hong Kong, Member of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, Member of Composer & Author Society of Hong Kong, Member of Hong Kong Composer Guild. He is listed in the Dictionary of Chinese Musician.
